My US State Highpointing Page

I think I got into Highpointing like most people do, for the most part it happened by accident. I simply climbed Mt. Washington one day way back in high school and was fascinated by the fact that I was standing on top of the tallest mountain in the Northeast. I remember feeling like I had done something really important, and the fact that I climbed the mountain, instead of simply driving up the auto road like the dozens of tourists at the top made me feel good. Fast forward a few years and I was planning a hiking trip that wasn't too strenuous that I would bring my girlfriend (now wife) out on. I didn't want to do anything that was too crazy to scare her off from hiking forever so I picked a mountain close to our College. That hike happened to be Mt. Greylock, the highest peak in Massachusetts. After completing the climb I realized that I had already finished two of the 50 highpoints and since I am a little obsessive when it comes to completing things I started working on finishing out the list of 50.  For some reason it feels really good to complete a list, even if it takes years to do. From then on I have been hooked, and since I tend to move every few years with the Army I have ample time to be able to pick up a few more highpoints as I go. I have for the most part been doing this as a small side hobby and focusing on climbs close to home but it has been a fun and interesting way to bring me out to see new things. Feel free to look around and see what I have done. You can find links to the trip reports I have done in the table below the map, Enjoy!

  1. Highpointing is a great way to see the country and to climb some awesome mountains. I've been working on they since 2001! I recently came up with an Effort Scale for the 50 US State Highpoints - check it out at https://www.summitpost.org/the-effort-scale-of-highpointing-the-fifty-us-states/1046476
